Hello! Welcome to plackett.com, my home page.

Personal home pages are rather out of fashion at the moment with blogs, facebook, twitter and so on but an update to this one was overdue. You find us still living in France and working in Geneva, although I am now employed by the University of Glasgow and based at CERN working on the upgrade to the LHCb VErtex LOcator (VELO) sub-detector.

As a rough guide to this site things to do with physics are listed under professional and things to do with my other activities are listed under personal. This said I am trying to keep things a bit more current on the site so there has been some trimming and there are some empty spaces where really out of date things haven't been replaced.

If you don't know me and have made it here by accident, I'm a physicist working at CERN: am I the right Richard???
