On this is a Page dedicated to my Ideal drum kit arrangement. At the moment I haven't made any definite Choices about the Cymbals or Shells, BUT i have definitely decided upon the framework/rack. What i hear all you drummer cry A RACK but they're Horrendously UGLY - AHA i respond not this one. Now this is abased on something that was enormously expensive that i saw in an old copy of RHYTHM(TM) magazine one of the generic future publishing music rags and so is probably pantented to bits but if i build it myself and don't try and sell it to anyone i don't see what they can do to me.
a picture of the layout for a truly splendid setup
As the above image might help to illustrate the main idea of the project is to get two enormous tubular rings and lock them together in such a way that they form a cool looking metal frame around the kit.

I think purple and shiny for the drums but I'm not sure i quite like my current kits finish which is black diamond pearl. Here are a couple of nice finishes i found online and stole to give you some flavour of my thinking.

I quite like the blue marble seeing them there like that, but the red and purple looks good too. My current kit is the back version of the blue marble. - mm!

So what finish to go for for the steel rings - i know what you shout - what other colour is there for hardware apart from chrome and shiny but.. you would not have considered the possibilities of anodising and brushed aluminium. As i already possess a brushed aluminium bar to support my midi rack I can tell you in no uncertain terms that it is very shiny although moving the hardware around doe leave unsightly scratches :]. The idea of a Black shiny steer ring however touches something deep in my metal soul - these are all things to be considered.

The main benefit of this system (practically) would be you can mount everything off it exactally where you want it and then sit on it .. given my vast girth it might be a good idea to make it stable on its own so i don't overbalance the entire setup which would of course be very embarrassing to be shown to weight more than a 7 piece drum kit and a half ton of steel tubing... Yes well anyway it would be amazingly steady, AND you could put the whole thing on rubber feet and have PROPPER mounting points for the Bass drums, none of this terrible scratching the shells and clamping the beater onto the tension hoop. It would be possible to have almost floating mounts and a specific screw down plate for the pedals.

I think the toms would still be mounted on the bass drums, and I'm unsure about how to do the snare, maybe there is the possibility of a second chord in the upper ring to hold the front of the bass drums and the toms and snare. This would be easy to clamp on but might spoil the esthetics. Failing this the drums could be placed on stands clamped to the bottom or top ring like extension cymbal arms.

another picture of how I imagine the rings to work.
